National Examination: News from Vitalis

I am very grateful for your support.

This year 2014, we have 17 children sitting for the National Examination (KCPE).  Celina Atieno is doing well after the eye-operation, thanks to you she can now read and write the work from the chalkboard without difficulties; however she attends the clinic until she is fully healed.  Our challenges now are how to have a permanent place (building) for the next school project.  We are using 150 000 Kenia Shillings per month to pay teachers‘ salaries which is too expensive, therefore we need your help to pay teachers‘ salaries.

Greetings from St. Lazarus School

We are still struggling.  The school now is in August holiday break until September 2nd 2014.  Which is one week from now. We had promised the A.C.K  church priest, where we have
been using the church building for our classes  that we will move out by the 1st September 2014.  However, we have not yet raised enough funds to pay the rent for the new building.

That is why we are appealing to you for help.

Celine Atieno is now in the fifth grade (Standard five).  She is doing well in her studies.  Last term she was on the 5th position out of 21 pupils in her grade.  She has been visiting Kenyatta National Hospital for her eye clinic.  The eye check is ksh 800 and a bus fare of ksh 400 for her and the person who takes her to the hospital everytime from Kayole to hospital and back.
The doctor said that she needs an urgent eye operation to correct her worsening eye sight at the cost of ksh 28,000.  If we get this much, we shall be able to book for the operation date during her next clinic visit on Tuesday 26th August 2014.  The school has no this much money for now.  That is why we request you to kindly assist us to help this young girl not to loose her eye sight completely.

get much greetings from St.Lazarus. We have started the year well. Last year national exam (K.C.P.E) our first candidate got 386 marks out of 500 marks.
We have many challenges this year which needs your urgent help.

We need more teaching materials e.g (chalks, books, pens, pencils,papers, charts, wall maps) which amount to Ksh 40,000
Teachers‘ salaries.Our last year contribution was not enough to pay the teachers‘ salaries and our building rent
We have last year rent arrears of four (4) months ( September, October, November, December 2013)

So we need your quick help of any amount that you can be blessed with and if you may find any chalks and writing materials, you can send it to us.
For anything, post it to Postbank and we will send back the receipts.
Last time I sent you pictures of the most vulnerable children to help us find somebody willing to sponsor them, but we did not hear from you.

New Floors for the St. Lazarus School / Neue Böden für die St. Lazarus Schule

Vitalis Serete, director of the Saint Lazarus School wrote in November 2013 :

Our challenge here is that our building is in a bad state.  We need to renovate it before the New Year 2014 begins.  The floors need to be cemented while the walls need to be painted.  We need to fix the windows, so we are looking for 70 000 Ksh (ca. 700€) to buy cement, sand and paint.

Die momentane Herausforderung liegt darin, dass das Gebäude sich in einem schlechten Zustand befindet.  Wir sollten Renovierungen unternehmen, bevor das neue Jahr 2014 beginnt.  Die Böden sollten betoniert werden und die Wände sollten gestrichen werden.  We müssen die Fenster reparieren und wir brauchen 70 000 Ksh (700€) um die Kosten für Beton, Sand und Farbe zu decken.

St. Lazarus Costs and Contracts

Es freut uns zu hören, dass es einen Antrag für die Renovierung des neuen Schulgebäudes gibt.  Wir haben versucht einen Partner zu finden, der billig und fair arbeitet, aber die meisten die wir kontaktiert haben sind zu teuer.  Es ist eine gute Idee den Freiwilligen unter den qualifizierten Leuten in der St. Lazarus Gemeinde zu engagieren um die Renovierung des Gebäudes zu machen.  Materialien könnten unter Eurer Aufsicht zur Verfügung gestellt werden.  Es könnte sein, dass das Geld für Materialien nicht ausreicht, da sie sehr teuer sind und das Gebäude in einem schlechten Zustand ist.  Das Dach muss mit Eisenplatten ersetzt werden, die Böden sind abgenutzt und die Innen- und Aussenwände müssen gestrichen werden.  Die Menschen die in Verbindung mit St. Lazarus stehen, können die Arbeit leisten.  4000€ reichen für Möbel und Ausrüstung, einschliesslich Laptops und Tafeln.  Es wäre gut die Materialien von den Heimwerker-Geschäften in der Nähe der Schule zu kaufen um Transportkosten gering zu halten.

We are glad to hear that there is effort of renovating the new school building. We have been trying to find a contractor who do the work at a cheap and at a fair price but most of those we contracted are too expensive to work with. The good idea is to use the volunteer workers who are qualified in building and contraction among the St. Lazarus people to do the renovation of the building with the materials you will provide under supervision. We would like to tell you that the amount of funds allocated for materials to repair the new building may not be enough since the cost of the materials are very high and the state of the building itself is bad. It needs replacing the roof with new iron sheets renovating the worn out floors and painting the walls in and outside the rooms. The people associated with St. Lazarus School will provide labour. The proposed funds for the furniture and equipments for the school in the new building of 4000 Euro will be enough to purchase the furniture and school equipment including the laptops and blackboards or chalkboards. For the materials it is good to use the local hardwears which are near the school to cut off the costs of transportations. [Read more…]

Selina hat jetzt Pateneltern in Deutschland / Selina has Supporters in Germany

Selina, hier mit Jenny, hat ein Problem mit ihren Augen.  Neuerdings hat sie auch Pateneltern in Deutschland, die 25€ im Monat für sie bezahlen.  Vitalis brachte sie nach Kisumu, wo sie die Augen behandlen lassen konnte.  Letzte Woche hat er sie wieder abgeholt.

Selina, here with Jenny, has a problem with her eyes.  Recently, a pair in Germany started sending her 25€ per month.  Vitalis brought her to Kisumu, where she was able to have her eyes treated.  Last week he brought her back to Nairobi.

Vorbereitung für das nationale Examen/Preparation for the National Examination

Herzliche Grüße von den Kindern und LehrerInnen in der Saint Lazarus Schule.  Wir kämpfen darum, dass die Kinder eine gute Ausbildung bekommen.  Dieses Jahr werden 16 SchülerInnen für das natinale Examen vorbereitet.  Wir hoffe, dass sie besser abschliessen als letztes Jahr.
Wir haben weiterhin finanzielle Herausforderungen und brauchen 145 000 Kenia Shillings um die Gehälter der LehrerInnen zu zahlen während die Weihnachtspause heranrückt.  Wir wissen nicht, ob Ihr in der Lage seid uns dabei zu helfen.  Bitte lasst uns wissen.
Ich habe Fotos der Waisenkinder und gefährdeten Kinder, die ihre Eltern wegen HIV/Aids verloren haben geschickt in der Hoffnung, dass Ihr die Fotos an FreundInnen und UnterstützerInnen weiterleitet – sie können wenigstens eins von diesen Kindern unterstützen, damit sie ihre Grundbedürfnisse (Nahrung, Kleider und ein zu Hause) decken.  Jede kleine Unterstützung ist willkommen.

Many greetings from St. Lazarus children and teachers.  We hope you are well.   We are still struggling to see the children have good education.  This year we have 16 pupils whom we are preparing for the National Examination. We are hoping they will perform better that last year.
We still have financial challenges, we are looking for 45,000 to pay the teachers salaries as the break for Christmas Holidays nears.  We do not know if you are in a position  to help us to raise the said amount for the teachers salaries.  If possible let us know.
I have sent the photos of the orphans and vulnarable children who have lost their guardians due to HIV/Aids hoping that you will pass the photos to friends and well wishers, if they would like to help at least one child to have the basic needs (food, clothes and home).   Any small support to these children will be  appreciated.

Hier die neueste Nachricht von Vitalis Serete, Direktor der Saint Lazarus Schule:

Wir kämpfen darum, dass die Kinder der St. Lazarus Schule eine Ausbildung und ein besseres Leben in der Zukunft haben werden.

Ich habe fünf Kinder, die Opfer des HIV-Virus sind. Sie haben ihre Eltern verloren und sind jetzt
Waisen. Ich lebe mit zwei und drei andere leben mit Verwandten. Ich möchte Euch bitten, Menschen zu finden, die Sachen wie Kleider, Bücher, Schuhe und Unterkunft spenden können. In Kenya kann ein Kind für weniger als 1 Euro/Tag leben. Ich schicke demnächst Fotos und andere Infos.

Bitte informiere uns über den Fortschritt mit dem neuen Gebäude.

We are still struggling to help the children in St. Lazarus to get an education and better their future life.
I have five (5) children who are HIV/Aids victims. They have lost their parents and now they are orphans. I am staying with two of them and the three are staying with relatives. I am requesting if you may find for them some people who can sponsor them with things like clothes, books, shoes and shelter to stay. In Kenya a child can live for less than 1euro a day. I will send you their photos and their other details in the course of the week.

Erneut konnten wir 200€ für die LehrerInnengehälter spenden und zwar für März 2012.   Die Quittung mit den Unterschriften der LehrerInnen und weiteren Beschäftigte ist hier zu sehen:
