Kurz vor Weihnachten konnten wir 300€ an Vitalis überweisen und wir baten ihn den Boden in den Toiletten zu renovieren und neue Tafel in den Klassenzimmern anzubringen. Das konnte er sehr schnell erledigen und hat uns bereits die Quittungen für die Arbeiten geschickt. Die Reparaturen waren deswegen notwendig, weil wir noch nicht wissen, wann die Schule in ein besseres Gebäude umziehen kann. Es ist zwar offensichtlich, dass ein größeres Gebäude nötig ist und wir haben sogar ein Gebäude in Aussicht, doch Gelder dafür sind noch nicht erschlossen.
Das neue Gebäude ist für die Nachhaltigkeit der Schule unentbehrlich, da es keine Möglichkeit in dem jetzigen Gebäude gibt, die Schule mit Strom zu versorgen oder adäquate sanitäre Anlagen zur Verfügung zu stellen. Ausserdem ist das Gebäude für 300 SchülerInnen einfach zu klein. Die Schule kann im jetzigen Zustand die staatliche Anerkennung nicht erlangen, wird die LehrerInnen nicht regelmässig bezahlen können und wird immer monatlich die Miete aufbringen müssen, ohne sich wirklich verbessern zu können.
Für das neue Gebäude und Grundstück brauchen wir 30 000€. Oder eine Anzahlung von 11 000€. Die neue Schule würde weiter die Kinder im Soweto-Slum versorgen, unabhängig davon, ob sie die Schulgebühren aufbringen können. Wenn es uns gelingt, die staatliche Anerkennung für die Schule zu bekommen, wäre sie die erste solche Schule in dieser Gegend.
Shortly before Christmas we were able to send Vitalis 300€ and we asked him to repair the floor in the toilets and acquire new blackboards for the classrooms. He was able to do this very quickly and has already sent us the receipts for the material and wages. The repairs were necessary, because we don’t know when the school will be able to move to a better building. Although it is clear, that a new building is necessary and we even know which building we can buy, there are no funds available at this time.
The new building is an important factor for the sustainability of the project, because there is no possibility to provide the present building with electricity and no way to accommodate the pupils with sufficient sanitary facilities. In addition, the present building is simply too small for 300 pupils. The school cannot acheive state recognition in the state it is in, it will thus not be able to pay its teachers on a regular basis and will continue to have to pay monthly rent without being able to improve its standard.
To buy the new building we need 30 000€. Or a downpayment of 11 ooo€. The new school would continue to serve the children of the Soweto slum, irregardless of their ability to pay school fees. If we are able to get state recognition for Saint Lazarus, it would be the first such school in this area.
